1084 vs 1095,5160,o1,etc. BladeForumsJan 15, 2018 · Lots of pros use 1084. It compares very favorably with other simple steels for knives. 1095, W1 and W2 are better for hamons, if that's what you want. Other steels have advantages if properly treated, but at that level I'd consider the knife itself and the maker much more important than the steel

4140 as spring steel? - Metal and Metallurgy engineering Oct 02, 2009 · 4140 as spring steel? 4140 as spring steel? brashear (Computer) (OP) 29 Sep 09 19:42. I need a steel to withstand 670MPa of cyclic loading stress (spring component for experiment, maybe 500 cycles). I cannot change the geometry of my part to achieve lower stress. It will give you a lot of choices for 1095 springs steel (UTS = 1215 Mpa). Red

Flat spring, 5160 vs. 4140 - Practical MachinistDec 28, 2015 · Flat spring, 5160 vs. 4140 ?? I have an application for a flat spring, about 0.040-in. thick, about 0.25-in. wide, and about 3-in. long. In my reading I find that 5160 is the usual spring steel, but comparing the numbers with 4140, there is not much difference at, say, a 1000F temper.
Identifying 4140 - Problem Solving - I Forge IronMay 08, 2007 · Also, take a look at my gallery photos. I just posted a photo of sparks from 4140 prehard drop and one of the pieces of steel I mentioned above. Because of a poor quality picture, it is hard to get much out of them. Also, it is hard to tell the difference between the two. But it is clear that neither of them is S-7 or mild steel
4140 Alloy Steel Flat is an cold drawn annealed steel of relatively high hardenability with its chromium content provides good hardness penetration, and the molybdenum imparts uniformity of hardness and high strength. 4140 Alloy Steel Flat responds well to heat-treatment and is relatively easy to machine in the annealed condition. 4140 Alloy Steel Flat has good strength and wear resistance, excellent

SAE-AISI 1045 Steel vs. SAE-AISI 4140 Steel ::MakeItFromMay 30, 2020 · Both SAE-AISI 1045 steel and SAE-AISI 4140 steel are iron alloys. They have a very high 98% of their average alloy composition in common. There are 31 material properties with values for both materials. Properties with values for just one material (1, in this case) are not shown. For each property being compared, the top bar is SAE-AISI 1045 steel and the bottom bar is SAE-AISI 4140 steel.
4140 steel is chromium, molybdenum, manganese steel with good toughness, impact resistance and fatigue strength. 1045 has slightly increased tensile strength and yield strength numbers than 1045 as a result of a slightly higher carbon content. Also, as a result of
